I am creating an audio archive of the UK singles chart, picking the most noteworthy 120 songs each year and using the following points system over a 9-week period as a metric for measuring success:
1 week at #1 = 8 points
1 week at #2 or #3 = 7 points
1 week at #4 or #5 = 6 points
1 week at #6 to #10 = 5 points
1 week at #11 to #20 = 4 points
1 week at #21 to #30 = 3 points
1 week at #31 to #40 = 2 points
1 week at #41 to #100 = 1 point
The songs are ordered chronologically with each part representing 2 months, and songs are only allowed to appear once (unless reappearing in a different form, such as a remix or a live version). My main sources have been the OCC website, Discogs and Wikipedia, with YouTube and James Masterton’s Chart Watch archives playing a supplementary role.
